Identification and Flexible Grouping

All students were screened with the NWEA MAP assessment in mathematics. In reviewing the baseline data along with prior teacher input, your child was identified as a student who would benefit from support services in math.

Given the diverse needs of our students, one instructional strategy we are utilizing this year is flexible grouping for mathematics. Flexible grouping provides structures to facilitate instruction based on a student’s prior knowledge and strengths, within a particular strand or topic within mathematics. It is common for students to change classrooms for mathematics instruction in order to best meet their needs. Students have the opportunity to work with other teachers and children throughout the year. In addition, over the course of the year, on-going assessment is used to determine whether or not your child will continue to benefit from participation in the program.
