What supplies should I bring to school?
The First Grade Supply List and additional items needed for my classroom are all listed on my webpage. Please click on the links for more information.

What are class hours?
Our school day begins at 8:55am.  Students must be in the classroom (Room 405) by 8:55am. After that, please sign your child in at the front office. The school day ends at 3:15.

What should I do if my child will be absent?
If your child will be absent, please call the Tel-Safe line at 609-716-5000 ext. 5410 to report the absence.

How do I contact you?
The best way to contact me is by email at n  If something is urgent, please call the main office at 609-716-5400 and give a message to one of the office staff.  They will get it to me.  I do not have a direct phone extension as we do not have phones in the classroom.  You can also write me notes anytime.  Our first scheduled parent-teacher conferences will be held in November.

What if I will be picking my child up at dismissal or earlier?
If your child will be parent pickup, please put it in writing and send it in your child's Take-Home folder that morning so that I can inform the office and dismiss your child properly. Parent pickup notes cannot be emailed because if there is a substitute in the class, s/he cannot access my email account.

What about any other correspondence?
Please put ALL notes for me, PTA correspondence, field trip slips, etc. into an envelope clearly marked with contents and your child's name and place it into your child's Take-Home folder.

What should I know about lunch?
Our lunch period is 40 minutes. On early dismissal days, no lunch is served by the cafeteria - you can pack a "SNUNCH" (snack + lunch) to be eaten in the classroom on those days. *Please remember to pack a separate healthy snack every day for your child.

Why do I need to pack a separate snack?
Our lunch time is at 12:58.  The children will have a snack earlier in the day to keep their energy up! Please pack your child a healthy snack and drink each day, separate from your child's lunch so that he/she knows what to eat at snack time, and what to have at lunchtime.

*Students who buy lunch still need to pack a snack for snacktime in the classroom.*

How are student birthdays celebrated?
*Please refer to our district policy regarding birthdays.

If your child is having a birthday party outside of school, please do not send invitations to be distributed at school unless the entire class is invited so that we do not have hurt feelings. You will receive a class address list early in the year.

What is your homework policy?
Per our district's homework policy, I will not be sending home nightly assignments unless I feel the children need a little extra work in a certain content area. As always, the children are required to read every night for 15-20 minutes.

What should my child know before entering first grade?
Children come into first grade with a wide variety of academic experiences and skill levels.  I will work with your child at his/her level.  Over the summer, you can review concepts and skills learned in kindergarten, and most importantly, read to/with your child every day!

The skills we do expect first graders to have very early in the year are those that foster independence and safety.  Those are:

  • Children should be able to zipper and hang up coats and backpacks.
  • Children should be able to tie shoes.
  • Children should be able to open snack/lunch items from home.
