Ask Mrs. Rogala

What is the best way to reach you?

E-mail is probably the fastest and easiest way to reach me. My computer is on all day long, and I check my e-mail at certain points in the day. My e-mail address is: gwen.rogala@ww-p.org Occasionally, our email system may experience technical difficulties. If you do not hear back from me, please call the office to leave a message.

You can also reach me by calling the school at 716-5400 and leaving a message with one of the secretaries. I will call you back as soon as I have an available period. I do not use or check voicemail. In addition, feel free to send in notes with your child. Each morning, the students unpack and check their "Notes and Homework Folders". I have a special bin in our classroom for notes from home.

May I e-mail you if I am changing my child's dismissal procedure?

Whenever possible, it is preferred that you send in a note with your child in the morning if you are changing dismissal procedures for the day. I understand that sometimes these changes are last minute, and you can e-mail me. I just ask that you make sure that I respond saying I have received your e-mail. Sometimes technology can be unreliable, and if our system is down, I may not receive your message. If you do not receive a reply, please call the office at 716-5400 to relay the information.

Is it okay to hand out birthday invitations in the classroom?

Students may pass out birthday invitations in the classroom ONLY IF ALL OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASS ARE BEING INVITED. Otherwise, invitations should be mailed outside of school. This helps to prevent hurt feelings. You may use the class list for addresses. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Is food allowed for birthday celebrations?

No, food is not allowed as part of a birthday celebration. This is due to food allergies and an attempt to keep things fair and safe for all of the children in the class.

Is it really important to send a snack each day?

YES, and a drink is a good idea as well. We have a brief snack break every day.  Our classroom is a NUT-FREE room. Please do NOT bring snacks with these ingredients. (Nut products are allowed at lunch.) Thank you for your cooperation.

In addition to making sure that your child has a snack each day, also remember to start him/her
off with a healthy breakfast. If you are ever running late in the morning, don't have your child skip breakfast. Send your child with a portable breakfast such as a granola bar or juice box. I would rather allow your child to eat breakfast while completing the morning routines than go hungry. We all run late from time to time, and this is fine with me, as long as it doesn't become a regular occurrence.

When does my child need to bring in his/her Reading Log?

The Reading Log needs to come back to school at the beginning of every month. I will officially check Reading Logs at the start of each new month.  This is an important part of your child's homework also. Please help to stress that recording the reading is as important as doing the reading. The students are required to read for at least 20 minutes per night for at least 5 nights a week. This helps me to see what your child is reading and his/her rate of reading at home. It also helps me to see if your child is understanding genres and experimenting with different types of literature. Each month a new set of Reading Logs will come home. Please help me monitor your child's reading by signing his/her reading log at the end of each month.

When is homework due?

Homework is due the very next day and to the best of your child's ability.  If there is an extension on homework it will be noted on the homework.

If I notify you that my child will be absent, do I need to call Tele-Safe?

Yes, always call Tele-Safe to report an absence, even if you have notified me that same day or in advance. Tele-Safe is our official school method for keeping track of absences. It helps to ensure that all children are safe and accounted for. Please call 716-5400 and choose the option for Tele-Safe.
