Responsive Classroom

Responsive Classroom is a widely-used, research based approach to teaching and learning that fosters safe, challenging and joyful classrooms.  The approach provides teachers with practical strategies that bring together social and academic learning.  Responsive Classroom is proven to increase academic achievement, decrease poor behavior, improve social skills and lead to higher quality instruction. 

At Dutch Neck we support and encourage the use of the RC model in classrooms.  Children in an RC classroom will begin their day with a Morning Meeting where they will greet each classmate.  The model encourages a strong connection between home and school.  Use of the RC model helps promote positive school climate.  Teachers are provided opportunities for professional development in Responsive Classroom through book groups, morning shares and building materials.
