Character Education

Character Counts at Dutch Neck School

At Dutch Neck School we strive to promote a positive school climate through several programs and activities.  Some of the themes we focus on throughout the year are;

Responsibility
Citizenship
Fairness
Trustworthiness
Caring
Respect
Friendship
Sportsmanship
 Students at Dutch Neck School try to be Bucket Fillers each and every day.  This program is based on the wonderful book, Have you Filled a Bucket Today, by Carol McCloud.  A bucket filler is someone who is kind and helpful to others.  Dutch Neck students are reminded to be bucket fillers (not dippers!) every day.
Another program to support a positive school climate is called, Be Kind...Like Josh. This program began after the death of a boy named Josh Stevens from Nevada.  Josh's parents started the Be Kind...Like Josh program to promote kindness across the country.  Dutch Neck students know the story of Josh and strive every day to be kind...like Josh.
At Dutch Neck School we plan community service activities for our students throughout the year to give our students the hands on experience of helping others.  We feel this is the best way to promote character education, by actively helping others.  Information will come throughout the year about these activities.
