Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Second Graders,

Welcome to second grade!  I hope you and your family are having a wonderful summer. I’m sure by now your child is getting excited (and perhaps a little anxious) about a new school year and a new teacher! I have many activities planned for our class.  You can check out my web page to see some of the topics you will be learning this year.

Some information for the school year:

Our lunchtime is scheduled for 11:25 each day. If your child is buying lunch for the day, I have found it best to put the money in a small plastic baggie with your child’s name and my name on it.  If you would like to send money or a check in for several lunches, we can forward it to the cafeteria office. You may also pay online through Comalex/Cafe Prepay computerized system.

I have provided a few minutes for a mid-afternoon snack. I prefer that the children eat something nutritious and easy to handle such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, and crackers.  Please send just one snack and a drink along with a napkin. On gym days and while the days are still warm, please also send in an extra water bottle.

Our ‘specials’ schedule for gym, music, art, and library has not been finalized. I will provide you with the schedule as soon as it is available. I do have some ‘homework’ for you to have ready for the beginning of school.

Please bring in a book or two to read until our class library opens. Also I would like you to bring in a bag or small box with a few items that tell about the child and their interests. For example, a picture of your family and/or pet, something related to a hobby or sport, a memento from a special occasion or vacation, and a favorite book.

I am looking forward to meeting you and having a wonderful school year.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jody Maher (pronounced  ‘Mar’)
