Curriculum Preview


Language Arts:
Balanced literacy: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Introduction to genres and theme-based connections with skills taught in spelling, grammar and literary craft.
Teacher-guided, independent and peer book club experiences are encorporated into language arts program.

With an emphasis on number sense, problem solving and alegbraic thinking, the curriculum consists of 12 units of study.  Envision Math will be the primary resources used this year. Smart Board technology will be encorporated into this year's program.

Social Studies:

Citizenship and Geneaology are integrated with literature study, including weekly TFK periodicals.  New Jersey and the regions of the U.S.  are taught using geographical resources, including maps and almanacs. Social Studies Alive and National Geographic are primary text resources used.


Inquiry based units include Chemical Matters (Physical Science), Astronomy (Earth Science) and Human Body Systems (Life Science). Emphasis is on small-group cooperative, collaborative learning.
