Welcome Letter

August 2018

Dear Kindergartner and Parents,

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Wriede and I will be your teacher at Maurice Hawk School this year. I hope you are having a fabulous summer and I can’t wait to hear all about it.  I am enjoying my time with my family, but I am also busy getting our classroom ready for the school year. It is going to be a year of fun, learning, and exciting adventures. Of course, there will be lots of other new friends who will be waiting to play and learn with you too.

I am looking forward to meeting you on the first day of school which is Thursday, September 6th. I know you are probably curious about and what kindergarten will be like. Our classroom is all set up with interesting things to do and see. However, I know the fun will not begin until you get here, so I will be waiting for you to arrive to begin our super kindergarten year.

I am going to give you some things to do so you will be ready for the first few days of kindergarten.

1.     Bring BIG smile!

2.     Please have a necklace name tag to wear the first week or two of school. Please have Mom or Dad make one, on sturdy paper so it will last longer and write the following information on the tag:
- Your first and last name

- My name: Mrs. Wriede

- The number of the bus you will be riding home on

- If you are a walker the tag should say that.

3.    Parent pick-up:

AM parents will park in the front lot and wait for their child outside the front entrance of the school where we load the buses.

PM parents will either meet their child on the second-grade black top which is on the far right of MHS when facing the front of the building OR at the small gym to sign their child out daily. Please indicate your preference on your child's name tag by writing 'black top walker' OR 'small gym walker'.

4. Please bring two photographs to school on the first day (3x5 or 4x6 are best). One of just you and a second one of you and your whole family. Have Mom or Dad write your name on the back of the photos. We may cut the photos so please do not send in any originals.

3. You may bring a 'nut free' snack and a drink to school each day, something you can manage opening and eating in about 10 minutes.  I will send a note home explaining how you can buy milk for snack time starting in October.

4. You will need to bring a large backpack to school each day. No Wheels please!  The best kind has zippers because buckles and ties can be hard to manage.

5. Please bring the following supplies:

- Three glue sticks

- A wide ruled composition notebook

If you are in the AM class please also...

      Boys bring:
-  a box of tissues

Girls bring:
- a package of standard #2 pencils

If you are in the PM class please also:

     Boys bring:
                 - a package of thick washable markers

                    Girls bring:
                 - a package of thin washable markers

We will share these supplies with the whole class so there is no need to label them. (I have individual labels with your child’s name for the composition notebooks). You may bring them the first week of school, but please not the first day since that is a very new day for all of us!

I am sure you, Mom and Dad may have some questions about kindergarten. Once school begins I will send home more information about our school lessons, specials/enrichment classes and other important things you will need to know.

Enjoy the rest of your summer! I’ll see you on the first day of school!

Mrs. Wriede

********* Very Important Safety Note*********

If you are supposed to go home on the bus, but mom or dad decide they are going to pick you up, I must have a note from home. Otherwise, I have to send you home on the bus. This is effective from the first day of school to the last. Thank you!!
