Welcome Letter and Supply List

Dear Second Grader,

Hello!  I hope that you’re having a wonderful summer vacation.  My name is Ms. Gardner and I’m going to be your second grade teacher. I’m looking forward to meeting you. We are going to have an exciting year!

Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 6th. It is a full day and lunch will be served that day. We will also take a snack break.  Please have your family pack you a healthy snack and drink. Snack will be in the morning. We have a late lunch this year.

The Second Grade Supply List can be found on the Grade 2 webpage of our school website. Here is the link:

Go over this list carefully with your parents, and have these items with you on the first day of school.
Please also bring:

  • (1) Clipboard (flat-no storage case attached)
  • (1) pair of blunt edge scissors (child size)
  • (1) additional composition book (so 4 altogether)
  • (1) Yellow paper pocket folder

It’s exciting getting new school supplies! Many of the items you will be getting for school - like pencils and glue sticks - will be for the class to share, so don't write your name on them. We will talk the first day about what you will be keeping in your desk and what you will be sharing with your classmates.

Also, think about a special picture or special object you can bring in the first week of school so we can get to know you better. It should be something that tells more about you, your family or something you enjoy. We will be doing lots of things the first few days to get to know each other better and to understand what it means to be a second grader.

I'm excited to meet you! Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and I'll see you soon.

Your teacher,

Ms. Gardner
