Welcome to Wicoff Music!

My name is Rebecca Dias and I am very excited to be the vocal music teacher at Wicoff School! Along with teaching the general music classes for all students 1-3 and PM Kindergarten classes, I also conduct the 3rd grade chorus. More information regarding the chorus can be found to the left. Kayla McLaughlin instructs the AM Kindergarten classes, and her information can be found below.

In your child's general music class, he or she will experience music in a variety of different ways. Together, we will learn basic music literacy skills including the foundations of melody and rhythm, healthy singing technique, folk dances and cultural music, and competency with classroom instruments. I aim to guide your child through a music class centered on musical play and exploration, all the while learning and growing.

3rd Grade Chorus meets once a week, either Wednesday morning or afternoon, depending on your child's classroom teacher. Chorus is a unique experience, in which each child has to work with his or her peers towards a common goal of musical performance. Participation in the chorus program provides your child with an opportunity to sing in a variety of musical styles, in different languages, and to learn how to follow a musical score.
I would love to learn about how music is important to your family! If you would like to share musical experiences that are important in your child's life, or would like to get involved with the music program, please feel free to contact me. Additionally, please contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have.
The characteristics of a good musician can be summarized as follows:

    1.  A well-trained ear
    2.  A well-trained intelligence
    3.  A well-trained heart
    4.  A well-trained hand.
