PE Sneaker Policy

Dear Parents/Guardian,

We would like to remind you of our Physical Education participation policies and procedures.

Medical Excuse

If a student cannot take physical education classes due to illness or injury, a note stating the reason for the excuse must be sent to the nurse and signed by a parent/guardian. If a prolonged physical education absence is necessary, a note from a physician is required. If a student does not participate in physical education, he/she will not be allowed to participate in recess that day.

Appropriate Foot Wear

We acknowledge the dilemma of which pair of sneakers to buy. We know that due to the numerous styles it can be quite confusing. However, the physical education department at the Dutch Neck School requires students to wear sneakers that will ensure their safety in our P.E. program. Slip on sneakers, Crocs, and platform sneakers were designed for comfort and fashion, not necessarily for physical activity. Therefore, please have your child come prepared to participate by wearing appropriate sneakers that Velcro or tie with laces.

As you check your child’s book bag each day, be aware there will be a “sneaker” note letting you know when your child has been unprepared for the second time.

Our grading policy reflects the importance of effort and participation. Thus, after their third time of being unprepared in one marking period, the students grade will be lowered.

If you have any questions feel free to contact the P.E. Department at 716-5400 ext. 5472 or the Nurse at ext. 5403.

Thank you for your support.
